HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested a Guatemalan national in Hartford who was previously charged with multiple child endangerment offenses in Connecticut, the agency announced Thursday.

Arrest follows state charges
Carlos Antonio Zepeda-Ruiz was apprehended by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Hartford after he was charged in July 2024 by the Bridgeport Police Department with three counts of risk of injury to a child and one count of disorderly conduct. ICE officers arrested him on February 27.
According to ICE, Zepeda-Ruiz had been paroled into the United States on July 14, 2023, at the San Ysidro West Port of Entry after applying through U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s CBP One processing application. He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge at that time.
ICE official cites public safety threat
“Carlos Antonio Zepeda-Ruiz apparently endangered the safety of a Connecticut child and presents a threat to the residents of Connecticut,” said ICE Boston Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We will not allow criminal aliens to endanger the safety of our communities.”
ICE officials said Zepeda-Ruiz will remain in custody pending immigration proceedings. No court date has been publicly announced.
