Romania - Factors to watch on April 20

BUCHAREST, April 20 (Reuters) - Here are news stories, press reports and events to watch which may affect Romanian financial markets on Friday.

DEBT TENDER

Romania's finance ministry sold a slightly more than planned 514 million lei ($136.57 million) worth of Oct. 2021 treasury bonds on Thursday, with the average accepted yield at 3.56 percent, central bank data showed.

JUDICIAL OVERHAUL

Romania's Constitutional Court ruled on Thursday that some provisions to a bill that reorganises judges and prosecutors are unconstitutional. The bill will be returned to parliament. The judicial overhaul bills have been criticised for limiting the independence of the judiciary.

The court ruled against challenges brought against two other bills in a judicial overhaul package, and the bills will be sent to the president to be signed into law. The president may also challenge the bills at the court or sent them back to parliament for re-examination.

CEE MARKETS

Central European government bond yields rose slightly on Thursday, tracking euro zone and U.S. peers that were driven by a surge in crude prices which may lead to more inflation.

TAX PROCEDURES

Romania's finance ministry put up for public debate on Thursday the norms of enforcing the fiscal code. The norms will ensure changes brought to taxation are uniformly enforced.

CRIMINAL CODE

A special parliament committee will meet on May 2 to work on changes to the criminal code. Some of the proposed changes limit the types of evidence that can be used to prosecute crimes, decriminalise some offenses, loosen up early release dates and are seen as not only weakening the fight against corruption but criminal legislation in general.
