Georgia Power hosts ‘Energy Exchange, Careers in Energy Exposure Day’ for Middle Georgia high school students

After a quick meet and orientation, students broke up into groups to tour the power company, and they were able to interact with employees.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – About 90 high school students in Bibb and Jones counties participated in Georgia Power’s, “Energy Exchange, Careers in Energy Exposure Day” on Wednesday.

Dr. Melissa Middlebrooks, the Education and Workforce Development Coordinator at Georgia Power, says the event shows students different career opportunities they may not have thought about before.

“Anything from linemen to engineering to fleet mechanic,” she said. “So many different ones, exterior affairs, and that’s just to name a few.”

After a quick meet and orientation, students broke up into groups to tour the power company, and they were able to interact with employees.

Landon Green, a 10th grader at Bibb County’s Howard High School, says he’s not quite sure if he wants to go to college.

Green says if he decides to work after graduating, Georgia Power is definitely at top of his list.

“It can set me up for the future,” he said. “Instead of going to college, I can work at Georgia Power and make a lot of money. I heard you can make a lot of money. I heard you can make like $100,000 starting off.”

Green went on to say that if he takes this route, he wants to work on power lines.
